WHAT MAKES YOUR HOUSE A HOME

When my husband and I chose to purchase our current home, one hope we shared was that we could have a place for friends and family to gather for celebrations and special occasions. As we define what “community” means for our family, we do our best to provide a home where our guests feel welcomed and loved, where our table is used for good food and conversation, and everyone leaves already looking forward to the next get together.

We are learning a lot about being good parents and this past New Year’s Eve we had our annual Family Game Night with some friends from our Sunday School Class. The evening was relaxing and a lot of fun until the goldfish died. Our precious 4 year old guest just wanted to pet one of the fish so he helped himself to choosing a new aquatic friend to love on. The following day, this young man returned to our home with a note of apology for our young daughter.

The note included a gift card to the local Pet Store so she could purchase another fish. We were touched by his sincerity and know we are blessed to have friends like these who value the importance of apologizing  and making things right as best we can. Forgiveness is what makes our house a home.
